Juggling Internal Tech Sales and Motherhood: My Life as a Working Mom with a 3-Year-Old By Nicole Naidoo

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a mom working in internal IT sales, it’s that we’re masters of multitasking. One minute, I’m preparing a quote for a customer, and the next, I’m handling a full-blown toddler tantrum because she’s not happy with the color of her Frozen lunchbox. Life’s all about balance, right?

Being a woman in internal sales means you’ve got plenty of plates spinning—sales targets to meet, internal teams to coordinate with, and clients to keep happy. Add motherhood into the mix, and suddenly you’re juggling not only deadlines but also snotty noses, making sure the right lunch is packed, getting her to after-school activities, and remembering to grab milk on the way home. It’s like managing two full-time jobs at once, but somehow, you make it work.

Here’s a glimpse into how I manage it all.

The Morning Hustle

Mornings in our household are a beautiful chaos. While I’m preparing for a day full of client calls and administrative tasks, my daughter is busy selecting her favorite mismatched outfit for the day. Getting her to brush her teeth becomes a team effort, with Blippi songs playing in the background to help us bond before we both dive into our busy schedules.

Using Microsoft 365 to Stay Organized

With so much going on, staying organized is key. I rely heavily on Microsoft 365 to keep everything on track. Whether it’s using Outlook to schedule my client meetings or OneNote to capture my ideas and to-do lists, the tools help me balance my work and personal life. Sharing calendars with my partner and setting up reminders in Teams ensures that I never miss a meeting—or my daughter’s soccer practice!

Establishing a Routine

Routine has become my best friend. Bath and bedtime routines help my three-year-old know what to expect, and it gives me a structure I can count on. This same idea extends to my work, where I use my diary and my phone’s calendar (thanks again, Microsoft 365!) to keep myself organized and ensure I stay on top of both work and home responsibilities.

Embracing Flexibility

One of the great advantages of working in internal sales at Netconfig is the flexibility the company offers. I’m fortunate to have a role that allows me to work from home a few days a week. This flexibility lets me be present for important moments in my daughter’s life, like her first steps at daycare, while still meeting my sales and administrative responsibilities.

Setting Clear Boundaries

Balancing work and family life can be tricky, especially when working from home. I’ve learned to set clear boundaries around my work hours. Once my workday ends, I turn off my notifications, put my phone away, and fully engage with my daughter. Playtime gets as much priority as my work hours, and I ensure both are equally meaningful.

Leaning on Support

Having a solid support network is crucial. My partner and I share responsibilities, from drop-offs to household chores, which helps take the pressure off both of us. Additionally, connecting with fellow working moms and dads provides a sense of community. Sharing experiences and strategies helps us all navigate the challenges of balancing work and family.

Celebrating Wins

In tech sales, every win counts, whether it’s closing a deal or getting great feedback from a client. I make it a point to celebrate these achievements, no matter how small. Just as important are my daughter’s milestones—whether it’s her latest drawing or a new word she’s learned. Celebrating both our successes reinforces that both of our achievements matter.

Finding My Balance

Being a working mom in internal tech sales is a juggling act, full of both challenges and rewards. Each day brings its own set of surprises, but it also offers countless moments of joy with my daughter. By embracing flexibility, setting boundaries, and leaning on my support network, I navigate the demands of my job while being present for my family.

To all the working parents out there: you’re not alone in this journey. Embrace the chaos, find your rhythm, and cherish the balance you create every day—whether it’s with the help of tech tools like Microsoft 365 or simply through the support of those around you.
