Business Premium, POPIA and keeping the lights on
Section 19 of POPIA says every responsible party must secure personal information by taking "appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures" to prevent its loss, damage or unauthorised destruction, and any unlawful access to it. Business Premium gives you strong technical tools for that: multifactor sign-in, encrypted devices, email protection and data loss prevention. It won't write your policies or train your staff, though, and that's where our Managed POPIA services come in.
Because Microsoft 365 runs in the cloud, with core data at rest in South Africa, your email and files keep working when your office power doesn't. A laptop and mobile data are enough to carry on through load shedding.
Ready for Copilot when you are
Business Premium already includes Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. If you want Copilot working inside Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, you can add Microsoft 365 Copilot Business or move to Microsoft's Business Premium with Copilot bundle (US$32 list per user a month). Premium's security and sharing controls are what make Copilot safe to switch on.
Microsoft's list price is US$22 per user a month on an annual commitment, excluding VAT, and it didn't change in Microsoft's July 2026 price update, even though Basic and Standard went up. What is the difference between Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Business Premium?
Business Premium includes everything in Business Standard, plus Microsoft's security and device management tools: Microsoft Defender for Business, Defender for Office 365 Plan 1, Microsoft Intune Plan 1, Microsoft Entra ID P1 (including Conditional Access) and selected Microsoft Purview data protection features.
Does Microsoft 365 Business Premium include antivirus?
Yes. It includes Microsoft Defender for Business, which provides next-generation antivirus plus endpoint detection and response. It works best when it is configured and monitored, which is part of what we do.
How many licences can I have on Business Premium?
Up to 300. Microsoft limits the Business plans to 300 licences in total across Business Basic, Standard and Premium combined. If you need more than that, Microsoft 365 E3 is the next step and we can help you move.
How much does Microsoft 365 Business Premium cost in rand?

Is Microsoft 365 Business Premium enough for POPIA?
No software makes you POPIA compliant on its own. Section 19 of POPIA requires appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. Business Premium gives you strong technical tools for that, such as multifactor authentication, device encryption policies and data loss prevention, but you still need policies, training and an Information Officer.
Where is our Microsoft 365 data stored?
Microsoft has datacentres in South Africa. For South African tenants, Microsoft's data residency commitments cover core data at rest for Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. We can check your tenant's data location for you in the Microsoft 365 admin centre.
Can we move from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365?
Yes. Email, calendars, contacts and files can be migrated from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. We plan the move in stages so your team keeps working, and we train people on the new tools afterwards.
Do we need Microsoft 365 Copilot as well?
Not necessarily. Business Premium already includes Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. The full Microsoft 365 Copilot experience inside Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams is an extra licence (Microsoft 365 Copilot Business) or comes in Microsoft's Business Premium with Copilot bundle. We'll help you test it with a few people first.
