The Pros and Cons of Cloud vs in House Servers

Cloud Computing

What should you consider when it comes to choosing the right server for your business?

The biggest decision is whether to have a cloud-based or in-house server infrastructure. While it may sound like a black-or-white selection, there are many things to consider.

In-House Server

Cloud Server

From a “CapEx vs OpEx” point-of-view:

Inhouse servers require large upfront capital expenditure (CapEx) whereas in cloud servers only require operational expenditure (OpEx)
If additional resources are required for in-house servers, the client needs to purchase the resources (e.g. hard drives, memory, network cards, etc) whereas resources for in cloud servers can be added and removed as required, resulting in a ‘pay for what you use’ scenario. Cloud servers can be upsized or downsized on-demand, within minutes. Meaning if more processing power is required for only a limited period of time, this is easily achievable, and can also easily be reversed when no longer required.
